On Monday night I left work and headed downstairs to the parking lot. I was tired and wanted nothing more than to go home and relax. When I got outside, however, I couldn't find my car. I looked all over the parking lot several times but I didn't find it. After twenty minutes of desperate searching, I called the cops and reported my car stolen. The officer told me that my car was probably long gone, used as a getaway vehicle in some robbery. They even told me that there had been two other car thefts that day. I thought I would never see my Previa again. After he left, I called a friend for a ride home. When my friend arrived, I told him that there was another Previa in the parking lot, and I showed it to him. Both my Previa and the one in the parking lot at my office were the same color. My friend suggested that maybe the owner of the other car had taken mine by accident. I told him that I could not see how that was possible as I was the only one with the keys. On Tuesday morning, the cops found my Previa several blocks away in the parking lot of a local CVS. They told me that they had towed it to the local police impound lot and that I could pick it up the next day. When I arrived home, my father told me about the owner of the other Previa reporting her car stolen from the parking lot of the CVS (where she left my car) and then he told me how it was that she was able to drive my car. He told me that one of the keys for her car fit mine. The cops think I drove my car to the CVS at lunch, left it there, and mistakenly drove the other Previa back to work. As if, in broad daylight I couldn't tell my car apart from someone else's. For two days, the woman denied that she had taken the wrong car, despite the fact that it looked markedly different from hers, and that it didn't have her stuff (why would it?). Ultimately, I got my car back with all of my things, and the woman admitted that she had taken the wrong car.
