Hi,
At night when I indicate to turn I also get an extra side light come on. I don't think this is necessary but I suppose it helps down those dark lanes. Do other Toyotas have this?
cheers, Martin

Yes, this is a common feature on many later model Hiaces - also quite a few Japanese sedans have it as well.

It's designed for two purposes:

1) To provide extra illumination in the direction you are about to turn

2) To warn pedestrians (perhaps standing on a street corner) that you are about to come in that direction.

Hi

It's normal. The light is called a cornering light and it is required by law in Japan and other countries. In NZ the law requires that it must work when fitted. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sunce.gif)

Do you mean the signal lights and stays solid or the dash indicator lights and stays solid? Or both light and stay solid? Check your wire connections around the actual fixture. Also flasher relay might be bad. What year is your car?<br>Do your flashers operate off a switch in the dash or on the steering column?

If your SURE that the bulbs are lighting up when you turn on the signal(all the bulbs are in good condition)and your flasher is O.K.(sounds like you need a flasher, though)it could be that you have a wrong bulb installed in one of your sockets

yes all the bulbs light, and the reason i don't think its the flasher is cause when making a right turn they flash just fine, the only reason i can think of is the front and rear side marker lights are disconected, atleast on the left side of the car. i have repalced the bulbs 1156 for turn signals and 1157's for the brake and running lights. one thing to note it i know that when the head lights are on the right side front side marker light works and the left dosn't...could this be my problem?

I have a pickup that does this. There was a break in the wire right at the connector in the engine bay. If you wiggle the wire it would make contact and work properly otherwise it would not flash.
