I just ordered one on Ebay and will install this weekend. Replaceng the Variable Vent. carb. with 2 bbl from Weber. Hope i don't have to use ALL the old vac lines! Had the old one off and back on 3 times already. The new one should be simple. I hope. I'll let you know how it goes.

Hi! Beninarkansas, iīm jaime gonzalez, from venezuela, south america.... i have a Toyota Tercel ī88 2 doors sedan, Itīs a great car, but here in my country is not supported by dealers becaused itīs a imported model.... in all the state is the only tercel ī88.

But i spent so much time trying to fixing the carb. itīs run ok, good iddle, but when i ask some power when the motor is warm, the car start to smoke.... Itīs fuel smoke (black), know i see the problem is the HIC valve... Hot idle comp... when the motor is cool, no smoke, but when itīs warm... begin the black smock.

I want to change the Carb, for a most realible carb... Iīll buy online trhough amazon or ebay, so i appreciate if you post all the info of the carb swap, including carb model, and all the stuff i need toy to do the swap. I think itīs a weber 2bbl 32/36 carb that fix my toyota, but iīm not sure.....

I hope you can change your carb without probles, then i can change mine......

Greeting from venezuela...

Got mine in yesterday and will do the swap Sunday. The hurricane is supposed to send rain and wind here to south Arkansas so it will be a good time to work in the shop.. The instructions say to face the throttle linkage to the passanger side of car but my stock linkage is on the drivers. I plan to take the throttle linkage off my old carb and put on the new Weber so the stock mounting for the cable and stuff will work. I'll let you know how that goes. Then it looks like i just connect my dist. vacum to the new carb and cap the emission port to the canister and hope for the best. The carb is supposed to be factory tuned for the engine. We don't have to pass any emissions here in Arkansas. The instructions say "Typical Install Instructions" so that means the instructions arn't written in stone! I think that's what it means.

Got around to installing the weber replacement carb on the 87 tercel. I put the throttle cable linkage from old carb on to new carb and installed carb with the linkage on the drivers side so the throttle cable hooked up like it did on the old one. The "Typical" installation instructions that came with the carb said to put the linkage on the passanger side?! The vaccum advance port will be on the back side of carb so be sure that you hook up a 2 foot vac line to carb before you install the carb on the intake. There is no room to inst5all it after you set the carb on. Hook it to the vac line from distrubtor that has no vac when at idle. Plug all vac tubes and hoses before installing carb. Fuel port on new carb will be on passanger side now so you need a fot of fuel line. Dribble a little gas down new carb and start. You will need to buy and install new plugs cause if your old carb was messed up, it probally gas fouled your plugs. If they are black, replace them. The car will run 100 % better. Guess how i know? Haven't had time to take it down the road yet, but it puurs like a kitten idling in the shop. Anyone else done this? Chime in!

I purchased an 89 Tercel 3E last weekend only to find that the carb was really hosed. Based on the posts here and elsewhere I purchased the Weber kit but it hasn't arrived yet. Can anyone comment on the final outcome of this swap? Lessons learned? Gotchas?
Thanks.

OK folks, here's an update. I installed the K751 kit on my 89 Tercel today. Since the kit is somewhat generic, the instructions that came with the kit are a bit vague. So, here are some pointers.

You DEFINITELY must install the carb with the linkage on passenger side. Use the linkage brackets that came with the kit and it will work fine even though you end up putting something of an "S" shape curve in the throttle cable. If you try using the old throttle cable linkage piece (from the original carb), it will fit the new carb but sticks out too far and your cable will have work at a drastic angle. With using all the new linkage pieces, you have to cut the ball off the end of the cable so it will fit into the linkage pivot bushing piece.

I marked all of my hoses as I disconnected everything (all 23 connections) but in the end it was a waste of time. Mainly because I had no intention on reinstalling the old carb or any OEM carb. So, if you are in the same boat, the easiest/quickest thing to do is after you remove the old carb, just take each dangling vacuum line and cut it short, then install a bolt in the open hose end to plug it.

There are two lines that feed engine coolant in/out of a section of the original carb. I didn't want to plug these since I wasn't sure what it might screw up so I removed one line and looped the other back to that fitting.

I found a 12V switched wire on one of the connectors that went to the old carb, so I cut the mating cable from the old carb, plugged it back into the mating connector on the harness and connected that 12V wire to the new choke terminal.

I temporarily plugged the vacuum advance port on the new carb until I knew that I needed it, instead I left the old vacuum lines hooked to the distributor. Then I put a little gas in the carb & fired it up. I'm still tinkering but so far it runs 1000 times better. The new breather looks like it designed to accept the crankcase vent (blowby tube) but it's not a direct fit so I'll have to get creative.

Anyway, I need to put a few more miles on the setup & tinker a bit more to give a better review, but so far I'm very happy with this swap.
