Just recently my taillights were stolen off my Toyota Tacoma. Apparently there was a sweep of many trucks the same night. I'm just glad no other damage was done.

I bought a pair of new taillights and want to install them myself. I thought it would be a straight forward job until I noticed the wiring colors didn't match.

The colors on the Taillight itself go as follow:

1:Green w/yellow line
2:Green
3:White w/ black line
4:Green w brown line
5:Red w/ blue line
6: empty

The colors from the wiring on the truck are:

White w/ blue line
Blue
Blue w/ black line
Green
Red w/white line

Help! What colors should go with which? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

sorry to hear the low lifes targeted your truck. I am assuming they didn't just unplug the connector and cut the harness instead. with a volt/ohm meter or a twelve volt test light you can verify each circuit as you acitvate the given switch. then just trace it to the proper lamp on the tail light. it should be pretty straight forward except for the flashers and directionals. those can get confusing. hope this is some help

Thanks. I'm gonna have to try that. I also have a question about connecting the wires to the harness connector. You guessed right, they cut the harness clip. I'll post pictures as soon as my camera charges. Thanks!

Here are some of the pictures I finally took. Can someone tell me if I just have to splice the wires and slide them in the matching holes in the harness?

Harness off the taillight:

:D

The tail light starts with 7 wires and ends with 5 on the harness. Is the white w/ black line ground or running lights? I still need to match them.

I believe that the black and white wire is the ground as it is common to all three light assemblies. On my truck this comes off the truck harness connector and grounds on the box behind the light. Toyota may have changed this and taken everything to a common point back up the harness. I would check the white and black wire first for voltage and then for ground. The hazard/directional hot wire will have 12 volts intermitantly with the switch on at both left and right sides. This same wire should have 12 volts with the key on and the directional selected to the respective side. The back up light, key on gearshit in reverse 12 volts. Running lights, switch on 12 volts. Brake lights, 12 volts pedal applied.

sorry it took so long to respond you probably have it figured by now good luck and watch out for low lifes
