I have been getting into the mk3 project upgrade. and have been organising parts (Turbonetics T76, Microtec MT 8, Laptop, etc).

I am now looking at mr intercooler, which (being stock), wont cut the mustard. so i have researched into this and have been given advise that instead of paying 4 figure digits for a new "brand name" intercooler, i should goto a radiator workshop and ask them to chop up a Mack Truck intercooler to fit, as it would cost alot less and i could design what i want (ie 3" in and out tips).

if some1 has looked into this further msg back.

from what i have heard, an intercooler off a stock r33/r34 GTR skyline is a great upgrade, for the purpose of a 7m engine just take it to a radiator workshop get them to lop off the end tanks, put one solid tank on one end (no opening), then two pipes coming out of the other end tank, so air goes into the bottom half of the IC, turns around at the other end then comes back through the top half and up toward the throttle body, this design has the advantage of effecively doubling the core length. the more time air spends in the core, the more time it has to cool.

getting a truck intercooler is not such a great idea, truck IC's are designed to operate at a maximum of about 4000rpm, even though engine capacity is smaller in 7M engines compared to trucks, there is still a much greater air flow happening at 6000rpm+ and 12psi+ in the 7M.
Truck IC's arn't any were near as efficient as optimal, and they will have a much greater pressure drop and internal resistance than would be required.

anyway, hope i helped

c-ya,
ben
88 turbo supra T-top
