My sister-in-law is giving me an 1987 Toyota Land Cruiser that has approx. 75,000 miles on it. The transmission needs to be replaced. There is some moderate rusting. It will need a major tune up, fuel filter change, brake inspection, etc. The interior is in alright condition. The drivers seat is beaten up bad.
My question is, is this vehicle worth putting a rebuilt transmission in and basically making it worth driving again.

Thanks.

Absoutely. If you didnt want to keep it you could fix it up so that its in drivable condition, sell it and turn a decent profit.
Land Cruisers, regardless of their condition are highly sought after. Theres a lot of people out there who would love to find an old LandCruiser to build up for off-roading.

I second that! Just yesterday I saw one from the 70s in a supermarket parking lot. Original paint and not in bad shape. I sat there thinking how I would love to get my hands on it!
