"There will be both coupe and convertible version of the car, probably introduced at the same time. The convertible is reported to have a folding hard top and is intented to be more of a boutique car than a serious sport car. The coupe, however, will be just that, eqquiped with a 5 liter V8 engine producing 450 hp and 383 lbs-ft of torque."

Thats what I like to read about. Im a real car type person and I love to see cars that are designed for more than just transportation on the street. This should be a fun one to meet up with, as I know I wont be able to afford it. Although Im disappointed they are going with a v8 instead of a tt-v6. It would also be nice if they had an option for a solid rear instead of IRS, Ive seen plenty of half shafts bust at the track.

Sorry, there will be no '08 Supra.

QUOTE
Throughout the past couple of years, major print and online auto publications have hinted at a possible revival of the Supra in 2007/2008, pointing the car in different directions. The vehicle was originally thought to be the flagship or halo model in the Toyota lineup, be powered by a high output V8, and have an estimated cost anywhere between $50,000 and $70,000. Other rumors hint at a V10 F1-inspired powerplant, like the current BMW M5 and M6, though current F1 engines have been downgraded to V8s. Power is 500 bhp or more, as this was likely due to the increasing number of sighting of a high performance sports car being tested throughout Europe and, more specifically, on the Nürburgring. These vehicles turned out to be the test mules for Lexus' future Lexus LF-A.[11]

Topspeed.com was among a number of publications that claimed that there will be a return of the Supra in 2008 [12] but Toyota disclaimed this rumor on August 15, 2006. The same numerous publications that originally speculated on a future Supra all stated no new vehicle was being developed. According to an AutoWeek article on current and upcoming Toyota vehicles, all rumors on the Supra's return are false.[13] Automotive News also claim Toyota has absolutely no plans for a Supra in the future.[14]

" All the rumors of the two-passenger sports car's return are false." - Automotive News[14]

Ive heard various rumors of the return of the Supra over the past few years and all of them turned out to be nothing more than internet BS. Untill I see a press release from Toyota and see the Supra featured in the "future vehicles" section of Toyota.com, Im not believing it.

I thought they Supra got pushed back! This is great! It's one of the cars I'm thinking of getting when I trade in next year. I was even thinking of holding off a year if they pushed it back. I"m going to that link and read up. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grin.gif) Man on Man!

At $50-70,000, it makes sense it a prototype for Lexus. Then, there's that $125,000 hybrid they're talking about. Better get rich quick!

:s12:Awesome... I did not know they were going forward with the Supra 08. You have to respect a vehicle that can perform and look good doing it. Supra 08 is going to be one of those vehicles. I wish I had the money to purchase one. Maybe... one day though.
