QUOTE(ss1129 @ May 6 2007, 10:27 AM) "Yes, the Chevy won, but they based that upon the price. Id much rathar pay a little more for something that I know is better. Saving money at purchase time doesnt mean much when you know you've settled for 2nd best. Look at this quote"
Well the article says Toyota is second best. You should bring that up with them.
You could also compare that to a 6.0 silverado or prehaps the diesel version. If youd rather pay a little more. And then be sure you didnt get second best.
Why not just buy the Tundra and not have to settle for 2nd best? From the quotes I posted up you can see they said the Tundra was the better truck, but they liked the Silverado because it was cheaper and they didnt feel that the Tundra was worth the extra $$$. That is their opinion, but the things you cant despute are the facts. The Tundra is faster, the Tundra has better technology, the Tundra is rated for towing more, the Tundra is more comfortable. You would expect the Tundra to cost more because you are getting more truck for your money. Besides, Id bet the Tundra makes up the purchase price difference in resale value. Toyotas typically hold their value much better than GM products.

QUOTE(Bakemono @ May 4 2007, 09:44 PM) If pushrod motors are so great, how come almost all sportscars use overhead cam engines? I guess the whole rest of the industry doesnt have clue and GM knows it all.......NOT! Seriously dude, give it a rest. You arent fooling anyone.
Forgot to ask you if top fuelers or funny cars or nascar runs OCH. Do they? I mean it would seem like they should, afterall they make more power. http://www.cheersandgears.com/forums/index...topic=15551&hl=Thats a good read, pros and cons of both. You might learn a thing or two, I did.

The rules specify pushrod V8s. Toyota actually wanted to run a DOHC 32-valve V8 in NASCAR, but they werent able to because everyone knew they would have too much of a technical advantage in terms of horsepower and fuel economy. How many pushrod motors do you see in Formula 1 or Indy Car racing? None, because no pushrod motor could withstand 18,000 rpm. Toyota ran a 2.5L DOHC 24-valve V6 in the old Goody's Dash Series against Ford and GM cars that ran 3.0L pushrod 12-valve V6s and Toyota still put out the most power. Infact, shortly before that series was disbanded, Ford and GM were lobbying for Toyota to have even more of a displacement disadvantage.

Bottom line, overhead cam engines are superior because there are fewer moving parts. With fewer moving parts their is less weight in the valvetrain, which you you less rolling resistance, which makes the engine more efficient, which gives you more power. Also, in theory with fewer moving parts there is less of a chance of a mechanical failure. Also, multivalve heads (3 valves of more) allows the fuel/air mix to atomize much better which makes it more efficient. GM's pushrod engines are very, very refined engines, but they still use dated technology. As far as pushrod engines go, GM makes among the best, but again, its still dated technology and is inferior to SOHC and DOHC designs. GM has been criticized by industry experts for holding onto their pushrod engines and trying to make them compete with overhead cam engines, and GM has always claimed that pushrod engines are better. Only recently has GM started to make the switch to overhead cam engines.

QUOTE(paperclip @ May 9 2007, 07:30 AM) That is the american mentality though. Look at harley davidson engines, They use pushrods as well.
I wouldnt call it, "American". Ford uses overhead cam engines in everything they make.

a magazine test is biased most of the time anyway and will mislead as well. so it is hard to believe them. i have driven them all and by far the toyota is better in everyway. but i guess some people just dont want to except it. GM is favored in almost everything especially nascar...they get new engine designs seems like everyother year but fords get to use old stuff and as well as dodges. of course a gm guy will come up with quotes here and there trying to prove different but they are just lies also. just like the guy trying to discredit the Toyota adds. chevy made the claim in one of there ads that they had the first rear doors that would open all the way....Hello what about the titan that came out in 04! so this jibber jabber is just to get a rise out of someone..but i would too if i were stuck driving a heavy chevy.
