I will shortly be behind the wheel of my very own Electric Green Mica Prius!

However, I'm not going to be able to take her home until tomorrow after work as they've got to get a special bracket for the 6-Disc CD player. (Being Next-Day Air shipped in). This is also no big deal, as I've got to stay late at work tonight anyways!

I can't wait! It's gonna ROCK! (I've already arranged my leaving work early tomorrow!)

Thanks to the wonders of rail road, I was able to beat out Bill Powell who ordered his a week earlier! (Sorry Bill!!!)

My Dates
Did the order/delivery dates correspond with the predictions of your dealer?

Waiting in seattle....John

<PS: Have fun.>

The order/delivery date did correspond very accurately with the date quoted to me by "Toyota Prius" in the E-Mail I received on 08/16/2000 with the subject of: "Prius Purchase Request, P.R.# ... - Vehicle Reserved".

That message quoted a 3-4 month delivery window, and we're right at about 3 months. (3 mos, 2 days from when I put the cash on the table).

As far as my dealer's predictions? I never asked him! I knew better from reading all the messages here and on E-Groups and by regularly checking out the order processes in the Delivery Dates Database on the E-Groups site.

My salesman has been on the ball, though! He let me know immediately when the truck rolled up this morning with my car on it, and when he found out they didn't have the bracket -- and I didn't even need to ask him to Next-Day the part.

It's going to be great starting tomorrow night! I won't have to play with my toy Prius to get my Prius Fix!

Chuck

Hmmm. Do you suppose I should be concerned that it's been six days since I got the Dealer order notification and I have yet to receive the email saying there is a vehicle reserved?

Unless I interpret your message incorrectly - here's what will happen. You have ordered the Prius. The dealer has been informed and your order is confirmed. Now, you will be waiting for a vehicle to be assigned to you. That will not happen until it arrives at port - in about 4 months. You car isn't even built, yet.

DH

No -- I don't believe you should be concerned at this time yet -- Taking a quick look at the E-Groups Prius Order Process Dates Database would indicate that the time ranges are from the same day up to 20 days after the dealer order confirmation.

It looks like the average time between dealer order notification and vehicle reserved notice is approx. 7 days.

Of course, your mileage may vary.

As they give you the estimate on when the car will be in port, it seems to be a somewhat non-trivial e-mail message -- it would look as though they have a system to estimate it.

Automobile manufacturers have very accurate and efficient MRP systems! They literally want inventory to arrive precisely when its time to be loaded onto the factory floor!

Reading all of the Yahoo and E-Groups messages is a great way to pass the time! ;-)

Chuck

I think Toyota batches up the vehicle reservation notices when they make plans for who will get the cars they will be making in a future month. So you should get your notice once they've assigned another month's worth of cars (if my guess is correct about their behavior).

I got my toy Prius from eBay! A seller by the name of "Tomyracer" who lives in CA seems to have a great supply-line and picks them up regularly!

I bought one (which comes in a really cool little box!) and then my little boy wanted one too, so I ordered another one from a different auction a couple of days later!

Here's a picture of one:
http://www.cae.wisc.edu/~jia-hua/pix/Tomica86.JPG

Also, I've had MY REAL PRIUS for over 24 hours now! And, I've put on a whopping 21 miles on it! Been really too busy to drive it :-(. However, last night I was a bad boy and set up the radio presets, discovered how totally cool the FM Type mode is, and just got used to my new car while parked in the driveway with the car running! I was able to watch my MPG value slowly go down as I played out there!

Well, I'll be going out RIGHT THIS MINUTE to take her out for a spin!

See ya,
Chuck

P.S. I just saw a Honda Insight on the road today! My first view of any non-demo hybrids!
