I picked up my '02 Brilliant Blue Prius on Friday!!! I Love this car. I have allmost 500 miles on it allready and am averaging around 50 miles per gallon!!! (By the pump and the screen, Screen 50.2 pump 50.05, close enough for me) I am in the Northeast and ordered 6/1.

Port of entry, Newark? I recently ordered a 2002 Prius and was told by the salesman that they are manufactured in Detroit?! I wasn't impressed by the knowledge of the Prius that this salesman had, anyway, but he was at one of the few dealers who even have a Prius to test drive in my area(SE Mass.) I was also hoping for 0% financing, but he said the Prius is in such demand that they only had 5.8%( and Corollas and Camrys aren't in demand?)

The Prius is only made on one line in Japan (as evidenced by the VIN layout, and low volume production), and have to be put on a ship to get to the US.

Known ports of entry are:
Long Beach, CA
Portland, OR
Jacksonville, FL
Newark, NJ
Baltimore, MD ? My mother, who lives in SE Mass, currently has their order through them. Nicole, her salesperson, is very good with the Prius, and low/no-pressure, and has been giving my mother monthly updates on her order. As my mother passes by the dealership on her way to/from work, she's noticed a new Silver Prius with dealer plates in their lot. (Used to have to schedule test drives with the owner (or some one of his family members), as he loaned his personal car for test drives...)

Yeah, this salesman seems pretty out-to-lunch, and if he is clueless about the big easy-to-check things, what will he do about the subtle-but-important things (like did he really enter your order?)

Anyway, Michelle, I have heard (I think from either Toyobri on this group or by Cliffy1, another delaer who frequents the Edmunds Prius group) that the same ship goes first to Newark and then Baltimore. I don't know if that is true, but if so it means that Baltimore really is a seaport, not just a buffer.

Burns

Buffer???

Baltimore's a port!!! It's quite a ways up the Cheasepeake Bay, so they like to off load what they can in Newark to make the ship lighter.

Marie
Waiting in DC

Just an FYI: Houston's a port, too. Up some channel from the Gulf of Mexico. So I suppose that makes all the port of entries real ports!

John R.

Oh, I didn't know that. Thanks. We've never heard that the Toyota ship actually goes there (I don't think), but who knows!

Burns
