A couple of years ago, when I first came to Germany, I wanted to have the ultimate experience driving on the Autobahn. So I rented a Jaguar, more because one of my friends is in love with Jaguars and I wanted to try it. I broke my own record on speeding, reaching 210Kph... that is way above 100 miles per hour to american drivers, but not sure how much. It was an amazing experience. That car drove like a plane and also consumed gasoline as a plane! Way too much. The thing is, my friend told me that her mechanic said he will be her best friend if she ever bought a Jaguar, because they are high performance cars, but love to break down and have very frequent visits to the mechanic. Anyone with a Jag that can tell me about those? I´m just curious, because no way I would buy one.

Yesterday I was talking to my friend who lives in Puerto Rico and she told me her husband is desperate to sell his Jaguar, because it goes to the mechanic more than he ever imagined! That's what her mechanic told my best friend too, that he'll be very happy if she bought a Jaguar. So... it seems for what I've heard from people I know that the Jag is a jab to the wallet! But I want to hear about others too. Anybody heard of this? Or not even interested in Jags?

MY boss bought a Jaguar convertible a few years back and have experience many trips to the mechanic to. I don't know if it's the car or he got an unlucky one.

I have a friend who swears by Jags ...she's on her sixth one. This one is the big turbo one and the only problems she's had have been with the electrics in the windows ...they have a mind of their own. Otherwise, she swears with regular maintenance, they're great cars.

My oldest brother bought a jag. It was his dream car. After 6 weeks he realised that it wasn't a dream but a nightmare. It had a regular appointment with the mechanic, it was always expensive to fix AND it guzzled gas.

He sold it after 5 months.

Regular maintenance is expensive. That is another car there for show. It has power and all, but they don't impress me, especially with that price tag!

I would sport a xj220, but that is about all. They actually feel fake nice, kinda like hyundai (?) is trying to do. Given the last time I was in one was 99 though.

I think the big Jags are strictly vanity cars ...you know, for people to drive to the golf club on Saturday morning. There's another car in the garage lol.

They have never impressed me, and well, most of them around here are owned by people who look at a lexus as a low class vehicle. It's all about status. They have massive engines?? Well they have to justify their pricetag.

While I agree that Jaguars are pricey, I am one of those persons who are guilty of wanting one.

Jag went downhill after Ford aquired them.
I wouldn't want one, and recently looked at one (and a Freelander) and it was extremely overpriced. Take a look on the web and look for service bulletins. They are rife with expensive minor repairs.
If, and it's a big If, I could ever afford a Jag, it would be a 68 XKE 2+2 Coupe, or maybe a 73 V12, they're real Jags in my opinion.
Anything after the Ford aquisition, is just a Ford with lipstick.

My biggest complaint about the Jag...the trunk lock set up. A freind of mine had a new Jag, we drove on a trip, I locked the trunk, short story long it was not just a matter of popping it open. Had to call a locksmith and he had to drill out the lock for us to get our luggage. Made me sick lol.

Now that's funny!

I see people around my town driving jags, and I just laugh cuz every one of them make it really obvious they have it only because it means money. For a car with that pricetag, it better have 24k gold trimming, and platinum parts.

If you do get one, keep in mind, you need premium gas. Not those cheap gas.
