and Mr and I have ordered the aqua mist Prius. We live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, and were told that delivery would take 2 to 4 months.
They wanted 500.00 down (non-refundable), but Mr got them to specify, in writing, that if delivery wasn't within 4 months that we had the option of canceling and getting the deposit back. We don't expect anything to go wrong, but like Mr said, "What if the delivery truck had a roll over into the Grand Canyon and here we are back at the end of the line and we really need a car?" It took a little tussling to get them to do this with the salesman saying that delivery was really expected to be sooner- 6 wks to 2months. (Ya think he was blowing smoke?) Reading this forum really helped us to know what to expect.

They said that the navigational system would be ready in two years, but the salesman didn't know what it was going to cost- he didn't think it would be as much as 4000.00. We don't expect to get one, but it is novel.

Expect February or March for your Prius. Please tell us the name of your dealer. Your salesman should not have told you 60 days. At the very best, you may have your car in 90-100 days. They are either blowing smoke or clueless. The Navigation system will not be available for the 2001 model year despite the buttons on the dash, and would likely be in the $2000-$2500 range as an option on the 2002 (this is speculation based on option prices on other cars.)
Same goes for Cruise Control. This is a $250 option in Hawaiian and Canadian cars, but not here until 2002.
Toyota will probably give you an email saying; expect your car in 3-4 months, or perhaps 4-5 months. Good luck,
-Jim

The dealer is Metroplex Toyota in Duncanville, TX. I didn't believe him and felt like he was just trying to mollify us, which is why Mr wanted it in writing, cuz, ya never know.

Do you mean that the 2001 Prius will NEVER be able to have the navigation system? We we told that once it came out, we could come back to the dealer and they could install it and hook it up. Do you have some kind of inside track on this info?

> jeknickerb asked in horror:
> Do you mean that the 2001 Prius will NEVER be
> able to have the navigation system?

Sure you will. As soon as the parts show up on the Prius parts list.
You will, however, have to pay a lot for that muffler!
Expect to pay the PARTS price (Nav unit, GPS antenna, cables and the DVD database. PLUS installation which "can" take 6 hours (or so) by my estimates.
There MAY be a shortcut, YMMV, batteries not - er... are? included? :-)

Bill Powell
Hey P-man - can I go visit it? :-)

> jeknickerb asked in horror:
> Do you mean that the 2001 Prius will NEVER be
> able to have the navigation system?

That is questionable. Early posts from Priusman indicated absolutely no. The wiring harness required for installation does not exist. Lately, however, there have been some hints at progress toward getting a couple of dealer-installed kits -- Cruise Control and the nav system.

However, if your dealer promised availability of the nav system as an option, he was blowing smoke. Officially, the only options available for the car are floor mats and CD player. Plus some standard stuff also works on the Prius--cargo net, locking lug nuts, glass breakage sensor.

I am also in DFW and started my sale on the internet, confirmed through Freeman. Don't do business with Freeman (find my earlier posts as to why).

It is likely that you will be forced into one unordered option--VIN etching. This $200 option showed up on my car without my ordering (or wanting) it. Due to the complexities of my final delivery, I was really unable to contest this option...and was so tired of the BS by that point, I basically caved. You might be able to avoid this scam by adding "No VIN Etching" to your purchase agreement, if it isn't too late.

Meanwhile, driving my Aqua Ice around and wondering why nobody thought of this sooner!

p

One slight correction,

"Same goes for Cruise Control. This is a $250 option in Hawaiian and Canadian cars, but not here until 2002."

The ONLY option in Canada is color, ~same accessories seem to be available.

Cruise, single CD, and mats are ALL STANDARD (no extra charge). Only explaination is the U.S. cars get 3 years maintenance, we get none so I suspect they had to offset the cost somehow. I do get 3 oil changes because I purchased the extended warranty (Toyota ECP).
