could some one please help me locate the knock sensor on a 1994 4wd yota with a 22re

directly below the oil filter . it has one wire

It's bolted in to the rear of the engine block at cylinder #2, Can't find a decent picture of it on the web. I think if your knock sensor's failed you might have more problems than a bit of pinking? Have you fiddled with the timing to see if you can reduce it?

Mine used to pink a bit when I used low sulphur unleaded. Japanese unleaded is higher octane than ours so the engines are set up for that. Using Super unleaded made a noticeable difference. Slightly improved power too, but only very slight. Well, it worked wonders for the performance, not the bank balance!   Check the fuel selection thingy in the centre console. It's not some trick gadget that you can play with, It's just a wire with a connector that needs to be connected or unconnected depending on what octane level of petrol you use. I assume it tells the ECU to do something different. I can't remember what the values are now as to whether you have it connected or not (I don't have the car now cos bikes are more fun). It should be in the handbook somewhere.
