I have a '99 LC who doesn't like to start every now and then. PLenty of battery, seems to act up on moist days. Usually second or third try it will work, but today it has not worked. Not real confident dealership can fix problem w/out replacing uneeded parts.

It's almost funny, I had that problem for about two years and I thought it was normal. anyway I( or PEP boys) installed a remanufactured high torque starter any it hasn't had any problems yet.

I had the same exact problem on my 99 Land Cruiser. At first I thought it had something to so with the battery or alternator and the charging system. But apparently not, so I tried replacing the starter motor and it worked.

Well, the starter really is the main problem of the land cruiser.I experienced the things you've experienced guys and I also ended up changing the starter.
