I own a 1990 LS 400. The temp/clock LCD on the climate control is out. I wish to avoid the dealers $1000.00 repair price.

Is there any alternative to removing the entire CC ssytem. Can the LCD just be replaced?

Hi,go to edmunds.com, get in used cars Lexus consumer comments, there are a lot of great advises 'bout LCD climate control panel.
To remove the display panel, follow step by step from "silcos and dugcar" instructions.I have it done and not so hard. One thing to be caution is when you remove ashtray, make sure that the flat screw driver to be set between the side of astray and the soft leather panel, about 1/2", not the bottom of the radio panel. There is one clip located @the upper part of each side of the ashtray. While removing this stuff,it's good time to replace all bad lights too. You can find them @ Irontoad.com for 3.48 each temp. and radio bulb, 5.42 each trac.control and heat seats bulb.
Good luck.

Sorry I'm not clear about location of clip on Ashtray. It's located about 1/2" @ upper part of ashtray sides. So to pry it out, set the flat head at that location between the softpart of leather console and the side of ashtray, not between the bottom of radio panel and the top of astray.Good luck.
