The study I've read concerning drl's said that the lights make one see an
approaching vehicle that they might not have other wise saw.
Try driving at night with out lights and see how many other drivers won't pay
attention to you because they are "used" to seeing headlights.
Your common sense is flawed, one had better get used to paying attention to
other vehicles if one is attempting to pull out into other traffic from a
required stop.
The real issue is, can a driver more readily see an approaching vehicle, with a
cursory glance, if there is a light on on the vehicle?
If comon sense can't answer this question, try riding a motor cycle in the day
time with out a drl. Let me know if you get out of the hospital and can still
communicate.
I didn't walk away from my '04 Prius because it didn't have drl's, but it does
have a headlight switch.
Safety,
Ray
