Hey all. Just recently bought a second hand 1992 Corolla Estate, and on Sunday I had a friend over to fit a CD player for me, what with me being a bit useless at that sort of thing. Yesterday I was due to start a 10 day tour round the UK, so I was pretty eager to get it sorted for then. For some reason we were getting no power through the normal power wires (checked the fuse - was fine), but what with the urgency of the situation, rather than try and correct that problem my friend opted for a temporary work around until we could address the real problem. He disconnected the cigarette lighter and took the power from that, which worked fine. I know this might seem pretty ridiculous, but I really was desperate! Now in order to do this obviously I had to take the dash apart, and so on Monday morning I went to screw the relevant bits back in place, and put the CD player back in its cage etc. I unplugged the player from the back, did the relevant things then plugged it back in and put it into position. It didn't work. It hasn't worked since.

It quite simply doesn't seem to be getting any power. I've checked all the wiring, which all seems nice and secure (with one exception, which I'll explain in a second), and I've checked the fuse in the player/the car's radio fuse and the car's cig lighter fuse - all are fine. The one wire which looks like it should be connected and isn't is the yellow wire coming out of the back of the player - I called my friend and asked about that, he said it should be attatched to the grey wire coming out of the loom, but when I did that it made no difference, and anyway - the car's clock is also not getting power and that's whats making me think the problem isn't just with the CD player wiring. Can anyone tell me what might be a cause of loss of power to BOTH the CD player and the clock?

Apologies for the rambling nature of this post, but as I know so little about it I've tried to provide as much information as possible in case the tiniest thing is relevant! Any help on this really appreciated, as I have today off, then I'm driving for 10 solid days, and 10 days on the road without music would kill me...

Hey there! I'm no expert or anything close but i once fitted a cd player for my mate and the same thing happened! Turned out it was just a loose earth connection! Also some of the small conectors you buy might not be giving you a proper connection! Did you use a proper conversion lead or just connect up the wires?
