I have a 2000 2.4 5 speed with 150,000 that has been an awesome dependable truck, but today I went to pass a slow car and was accelerating past and lost all engine power like I completely let off the gas and then it returned a second later. About 20 minutes later while climbing a mountain the same thing happened , but this time for about 15 seconds. It wouldnt rev past about 2000 and even with the clutch in it was missing and wouldnt rev, but then ran normal again so I got to where I was going and popped the hood and the first sparkplug boot seemed to be just a little loose because when I pushed down on it I think it slightly clicked. Well on my 40 mile drive home it perfomed perfect. Do you think thats all it could have been was a loose spark plug wire? I am nervous about driving it now. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I was just gonna mention to check your spark plugs and wires. Yes, a loose plug boot would cause those symptoms. How loose was the boot? Did it make a "snap" sound when you pushed it back in?

If it "clicked" like you said it did, then yes that was most likely the problem. It was missing on that cylinder.

Thanks for your reply! Yea it felt like it snapped. I hope thats all it was. I bought this truck with 120,000 and I honestly dont know if its ever been tuned because its still running toyota wires. I get great gas mileage though.

If it clicked when you pushed down on the boot, then most likely it was loose.
