Hey i just got a 96 Tacoma 2WD 4cyl. as a grad. present from my parents and everything looked good on it but it started having this loud metal grating/scraping noise when i accelerate after stopping. Like i'd stop at a stop sign, and when i pressed the gas (no matter how gently or hard) it'll feel like the back of the truck is maybe struggling to go. At first the noise would only happen on a hill but after a day of drving, it started doing it on flat roads also.


Can anyone help me out? I love this truck and i'd hate to see it go so soon :(

Check your Differential and Crank Shaft. As a safety precaution, you should drop the Diff oil and look at the plug. They are magnetized and see if there's any chunks of metal on the plug.

You probably have fixed the problem by now, but when my 97 was doing this, I had to replace the front wheel bearing.
