I am attempting to talk my significant other into getting a Prius. Her concerns are:
-how safe it is if colliding with a SUV.
-resale value.

She drives a Honda Accord, which she thinks is big enough, and is a low emission car. I was looking for a site I saw recently which shows the annual emissions from different cars and lets you compare them side-by-side. Now I can't find it.
Also, if anyone knows of an official report on how it stacks up safety wise against an Accord.

Thanks for any help!

I've been doing this research myself. The NHTSB crash tests for the Prius were only 3 stars for frontal, but that's because the engine doesn't have room to drop down as quickly (an engineer tells me) and so there may be more engine damage. The side airbags in MY2002 should be a good addition. HOWEVER, if you're trying to withstand a crash with a Chevy Suburban or a Yukon or some other high-sitting Gargantu-on, fergittit. The height of their structures is really bad for sedans and only another SUV (or maybe an old Volvo) can really withstand it. I got this from an ER doctor...
I suggest your wife get herself a Hummer. I'll wave at her.
Vetali

Remember when you look at the crash test results that these rate accidents that are the equivalent of crashing into another identical vehicle. None of the tests compare crashing a compact into an SUV. At that point, it is usually a case of "the heaviest car wins".

Burns
