Just had this problem cost me a fortune to sort it so if it happens to you, Mine was the indicator/flasher switch on the steering column but it had also burnt out the headlight/lights relay switch too. Took em ages to solve the problem and my mechanic had to call in an auto electrician. So if any body else gets this problem i hope it helps you solve it quicker Still wouldnt swop me car though John

I swapped mine when the insurance was getting too high. Never buy an Escort!   Soon after unloading my lovely 183, the police paid me a visit in the middle of the night. The buyer seemed like a nice guy so I didn't question him when he said he'd post the registration ducument on the way home, which I'd put in the envelope, address to DVLA and put a stamp on. Obviously he didn't post it cos the police woke me and some of the neighbours up in the small hours to ask why 'my' car had been involved in what they would only describe as a 'serious crime' (probably doing 31 in a 30 limit...) and it was now in their posession.   After taking a good look round my house they seemed to believe me that I'd sold it a couple of weeks earlier. I wish I'd said it had been stolen though, cos still being registered to me I might have got it back, then sell the Escort to pay for the insurance and the fine the DVLA gave me for not informing them of the change of owner...   You live and learn. Uncle Dave says: Post the V5 document yourself, And don't buy a bloody escort. They're crap!

LOL When i bought mine off the dealer it had been brought in as a personal import and registered in his mates name, he asked me not to change it into my name for a year or there would be some duty to be paid on it. A few months later i was working in a very dodgy club in a very dodgy area, left the car parked outside and the police went to the house that it was registered to and woke his mother up at 4 in the morning to find out why it was there. Don't think she was too happy :)

Nice one! Can't say I'd be too keen to keep it registered in someone elses name though. It would cause all sorts of headaches if it was ever stolen, plus if they're not very nice people they may even claim it was stolen from them!   I didn't have problems buying mine as my brother imported it and owned it for two years before I got it. Wish my sale had been as smooth! Still, hopefully we can learn from each other's mistakes!   Post the V5 form yourself. Don't attempt to 'fly' over a level crossing (Got 4 almost round flower pots in the garden now that used to be 16" momo sports!). No matter how much cheaper the insurance, don't go from Celica to Escort. And of course, Never wake a sleeping cat with a kazoo when your face is within clawing range!       LOL When i bought mine off the dealer it had been brought in as a personal import and registered in his mates name, he asked me not to change it into my name for a year or there would be some duty to be paid on it. Ah yes the fantastic Momo "made from finest italian cheese" wheels. Great looking wheels but don't take abuse well. You should have bought and insured the Escort then insured the Celica as a classic for mucho cheapo.  Why does a cats bum hair burn so well?
