Hello all, I am having some issues with my 2000 Toyota 4Runner's exhaust. I changed the exhaust to a 2 1/2 in about a year and a half ago because my catalitic converter had crystalized and most of it was in the muffler. About two weeks ago i had to replace the exhaust again from the cat back because of the same problem. I have taken it to the dealer and all they tell me is that the truck is running with-in the range that it should be. The truck runs great and i never get any codes, but something is causing the exhaust to melt down. The cat crystalizes and the mulffler swells, i do have a TRD supercharger on the truck but have never had any problems with it at all. I assumed that the muffler swelling was caused by all the pressure from the supercharger but i dont know. Please help!!!!!!!!!

Sounds to me your supercharger is getting the exhaust far too hot, allso i think you have the wrong exhaust on, remember you have a supercharger!....ordinary standard truck exhaust wont handle the preassure nor the temp that it will get to.
There for allso causing problems with your cat as well!
Sorry i can't help you more but try looking in that area.....cheers for now dude! and good luck (IMG:style_emoticons/default/s12.gif)

yeah that sounds like your problem, the exhaust is getting too hot from the heat increase under heavy use of the supercharger. when steel is superheated it will expand. the steel is meant to "swell" under normal applications. However, you do not have a normal set up. look into performance exhaust and headers, if anything it will help your engine breath and really allow the supercharger to do its thing.

By the way, is your 4runner a manual?

No its an automatic, i have checked in the past on TRD exhaust and they dont seem to make any for my 2000 model. I only have one cat instead of two like other 2000 models. Any help would be greatly appreaciated. Thanks

Hi, I'm new to this site. I have the exact same 4runner you have. I have a 2000 4runner with supercharger. I installed a TRD catback exhaust. You should check your local Toyota dealer. Just to let you know, I have a 1 converter exhaust system. Mine works great.
