My ex-Camry had key wiring chewed through by mice and rats. The repair bill was $500 and I paid my $100 deductible. DO I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION? .....thank you.

I have discovered "party debris" in 2 of the three flat areas in the engine compartment. One below the window washer fluid bottle, one on top of the motor/generator nearest the ICE. The area yet to be "violated" is the flat area on left side, as you look into the compartment. It is at the base of a vertical vent tube.

I have already discovered that the "sticky foot pads" collect nothing but droppings. In the Camry there was enough room to install bait blocks on wires that I could secure to bolts or uprights. Joe Toyota has left almost no room to install deterrents such as traps.

I read about the idea of using steel wool to fill up voids that the mice inhabit.

Does anyone know of a chemical paste or spray that mice find obnoxious?

Terry Dearborn
Lafayette, CA
terrylau@...

Check out the following website. Crane Creek Farms sells a product called "Fresh Cab". It purpose is to be an air freshener that mice can't stand. I assume it was "invented" to keep mice out of farm machinery (tractor cabs, etc.). At any rate, its might do the trick of getting ride of your underhood mice problem without using things like moth balls.

www.earth-kind.com/

Hi:

Forget the rodents, has anybody discover ANTS in between the body panels entering the cabin? I had to empty a can of RAID under the hood! Wondering if the electrical system is attracting them?

-Michael
CA "Prius"

A couple years ago I spent 3 months in the mountains of Colorado with my car parked in a field. Everyone warned me about field mice chewing the insulation off the wiring in my car. I was instructed to buy moth balls and put them in the engine compartment, and to sprinkle them under the car. (This was a Buddhist retreat, so no one wanted to kill the little guys.)

I put three small cups of moth balls in the engine (so I could remove them easily) and sprinkled the mothballs under the car.

This worked like a charm. The guy parked next to me ignored the advice and his car was beached for a week while he tried to get the wires replaced.

Martha

Martha, thanks for the great idea of putting moth balls in small cups in the engine compartment. Now all I have to do is remember to take them out.

Terry
