I am considering on buying a Lexus, just because it is a nice looking and reputable car I have dreamed of for a long time. Although I love the looks, I was wondering how many miles people put on these cars before they give problems! Are repair fees high, or they as reliable as they are advertised?

I have a good friend who always drove a Lexus. He has a hideous commute each week and puts some heavy miles on a car. When his last Lexus hit 190,000, he decided to get rid of it even though he really didn't want to as he'd had no problems at all with it. So, after four Lexus' in a row, he decided to buy an Audi stationwagon which was loaded. He hates this new car says the mileage is much worse than the Lexus, it's less comfortable, and he's dumping it to go back to a Lexus. Good testimony lol.

Toyota and Lexus are well known for their reliability. I've known a few people on other boards who have had their Tacomas go over 200K miles without any problems with proper maintenance. My '99 Taco is at 120K and feels stronger than the day I drove it off the lot. If you buy used, I'd say buy it Certified from Lexus, that way you'll have some sort of warranty and piece of mind.

Buying certified is the way to go these days ....you save a lot of money off a new vehicle price, you can find
low mileage cars, and you've still got some security with their warranties.

Sounds like a good idea. I am not particularly even looking for a new one, just one that is in great condition, low miles, and at least made in the past few years.

You know that's not a bad idea. I have considered the option of a certified Lexus, but never taken the plunge. I might have to look into that.

I know a few people who have gotten them and they say it's the way to go. The other good
certified warranties are with Audi. I hear a lot good about them but I'm not sold as much on Audis as I am on Lexuses.

I do love audi's though, got to say that they are another car that lasts forever...you rarely hear any negatives.

Only problem with Audis is the price of repairs ...or so I hear from friends. That's sort of put me off from looking at them much.

I heard the same thing with audis and repairs and how expensive they can be...also heard the same with saabs...that they are costly to repair.

Also, it depends on how far the dealer is from where you live. Factor that in with a certified buy because you'll be going back there. If there's no warranty just make sure there's a local mechanic who is good and recommended.

I fortunately have the local mechanic about 3 blocks away (trusted) and the dealer about 10 minutes away...so this may be something to look at!

That's lucky then ...I'm over an hour from the nearest dealer and the nearest import mechanic just got arrested for dealing drugs ...guess they didn't get enough repair work lol.

A friend of mine has a Lexus and loves it and wouldn't consider parting with it. It has alot of miles on it and has been trouble-free. Most of the people who i know love lexus and their durability.

It's amazing, isn't it? The Lexus seems so pricey but if that many happy people are indication of its value, it might be worth thinking about one. Of course, the new SUV type thing they make isn't within my reach at the moment and that's what I'd want! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/s12.gif)

Yes, The SUV is sweet, but out of my reach to. It's very nice though.

On the other hand many people who buy lexus just want the status, even if the car reeks, they stick with it. By no means I say they are bad, but many people buy them because it shows their status.

Oh, I think that is true in many cases. Cars right now are also making a political statement. It's like anyone who owns a Prius is definitely either an independent or a Democrat! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/gunsmilie.gif)
