I have an 83 toyota pick up with the 22R engine in it. Every 3-4 days while im driving it, it starts to stall or miss but only seems to do it when im in gear and giving it gas only seems to kill it faster. I can sit and wait about ten minutes and it'll start right up and won't do it again for another 3-4 days. The altenator is going out, but i think the problem must be elsewhere like the igniter. (a new igniter is over 300 bucks at reibes and kragen!!!) Anybody experience this problem before? I would like find out if it could be anything else before i go and buy a 300 dollar part.

It might be the igniter. Having a extra spark plug and some way to crank it to check for spark when it dies would tell you. It's sounding more like a fuel pump to me.
