I just recently purchased an 89T, and it has been running fine the past
few weeks. Well, tonight, when driving, I started to notice it getting
sluggish, and dying when I put in the clutch. When I got home, I kept
it running (since I don't yet have a turbo timer), and got out. That
was when I noticed white smoke coming out of the exhaust, and what
seemed to smell like oil. I looked under the hood, and everything
seemed fine, except for the white smoke coming out the back. I checked
the oil while it was running, and it was a little low. The coolant
overflow bottle was about half full, and there was evidence of it having
overflowed. When I revved the engine, their was a loud clicking sound
(I have recently replaced the spark plugs and wires, and didn't hear
this until today). When I shut the engine down, the smell changed to
being a "burning" coolant smell, and the radiator started to gurgle, and
the overflow bottle was bubbling. I then listened above the engine, and
seemed to hear some gurgling (but that could have been from the
radiator).

Do I have a BHG? Or does it sound like some cooling system problems?
Oil change (which I was planning on doing tomorrow)?

Any info would be appreciated, and any suggestions on possible places in
the KS/MO area to take it to.

Thanks,
Jeremy
jmeiss@...

P.S. - Please respond to my email address also.

I am no expert on the matter but the indications are that you have as BHG. Checking the oil with the motor running does not indicate anything. White smoke may indicate burnt coolant in your fuel. Pull out your plugs and check their colour and whether they have any moisture on them.Get a hold of a compression tester (cheap ones can be bought from car accessory shops) and test the compression. The loud clicking sound could be a tappet or anything for that matter.Gurggling in the radiator indicates a lot of air has gotten into the system which again does not look positive. When running does the temp gauge run higher than half way? If so you have a cooling problem which may well be asoiated with a BHG. Dont know if this has helped.
