The 10th digit of any VIN is the year. The 2001 model year is "1" and "2" is the 2002 model year.

Thanks! Using your info makes my car an '01 - which is what the sticker says too. Everyone keeps telling me that '01s don't have Nav Sys or Cruise control but mine does. Guess I just got lucky!

Thanks again,
Oscar

I would love to run your VIN on the dealer network -It would be nice to know how yours ended up with the NAV in it. The report will tell me who (or if) it was "reported" to, as well as if the NAV was in it when it left the factory. If you'd post it here, along with the color, i'll post results. The color will appear on the report- and helps to confirm that the VIN on your car was actually meant to be assigned to your car. My understanding is that VIN's are assigned here in the US. I dont know the procedural details of how VIN's are assigned, but I'm speculating that there is a possibility of an error being committed by the region that serves your area. Of Course- you just might be the luckiest 01 Prius buyer in america too..lol!!

I have sat in a 2001 built back in June of last year that had Cruise and GPS. There was a limited run of these cars done for Toyota use. The one I sat in was driven by ee_of_ee. It looks like one or two of these cars made it to the public. I thought there was mention of one in public hands in Michigan on this site last year.

Before that the VIN was created using a different system.

(Ms. Fonda had such a specially-equipped 2001 delivered to a dealer in Atlanta earlier in the year...) There were a few made up for celebrities and Toyota execs (or at least those with some pull)... chances are that they've "traded up" to a new model year, and let their older special 2001s go as used vehicles.

Also, remember that Hawaii is considered a separate region from the rest of the US. Hawaii 2001 Priuses were available with factory cruise control and daytime running lights...
