Hello folks. I have a mellow 2001 Toyota Corolla 1.8L 5 speed CE. I would like to open up the exaust a wee bit, perhaps with a mandrel bent stainless steel exhaust one size up from stock and maybe a drop in K & N air filter or a CAI and lastly, an upgraded ECU or piggyback for a few more HP. Just looking for a modest improvement in HP, torque and response, without major fuel economy penalty. Does anybody have any suggestions for intake and chip? Also, does anybody know what 15" rims and tires are viable options for this car?

thanks,

:)

P.S. I just realized I posted in the wrong forum, so mods, you can delete this post if you like.

Hello. I have heard from another Corolla owner that you should stay away from AEM intakes. As for the wheels, probably going to tirerack.com and searching for would give you an idea. Remember, the lighter the wheels (unsprung weight) the better. Remember to looks for tires with good traction and temperature ratings, and don't forget the wear rate.

injen has good CAI, trd may also but i havnt heard about there performance. i've thought about aem myself. tirerack is a very good site for wheels though i would go for a 17". i dont know about the ecu chip. I also have not found very many exhaust brands that offer for corolla but they may for a 2001. i have 2008.
pulstar "spark" plugs can add around 10hp alone but i've seen that they suggest using without modded engines so i don't know about them

If you are looking for a high performance all season I suggest Yokohama avid v4s , I think they make some that would go on most 15s... we have them on the prelude and plan on putting them on the corolla next.

I would be interested in knowing about any ecu tuning options, I have my prelude eCtuned and it was an awesome improvement. I would like to do something to help out the corolla a little.

Any one know of any threads with info on good basic mods that actually help increase performance, not just self esteem?

I know the Short Ram Intakes in the prelude don't give much gain you can't get by just removing the stock resonator and dropping a K&N filter in... we did put a drop-in in the Corolla, just got to clean it for the first time recently.

anybody try this? reports?
