97' 4 runner. I just pulled out a wad of junk that looked like a mouse or rat's nest in the A/C fan. It was making a growling noise, thank goodness it was easy to get to. Three screws and it dropped down. Now the question. How the hell did a mouse get in there? When it happened, it was locked up tight with the windows up. I figured the duct work would be a closed and sealed up system. The only opening I can think of would be the A/C water drain. I haven't looked, but I would think that would be nothing more than a 1/4" or so tubing. Ideas? T.O.

I've emptied acorns out of my heater fan three times. If squirrels or chipmunks can get in, surely mice can! I have no idea how they get in, but I've had them in a Corolla as well as the 'Runner. Les

Mice and other rodents will nest in any car that sits for any length of time. Even cats will sometimes lay up by the radiator where it is nice and warm. I just paid a big repair bill for my father's Buick that sat on my driveway, then would not start. The mice nested in it and shorted out the computer module. I've seen a mouse scurry under a door with a gap of about 1/4". I think their ribs fold back or something. They can get into anything.
