Hi Yoyo, take 3:

I purchased my Prius in Feb 2001 from a dealer here in Southern California at MSRP minus a $150 discount coupon (ole settled class action lawsuit against Toyota) which cost me $50 to buy off the internet. The dealer was not willing to accept the coupon but later did after I threatened to walk to another dealer to buy a TRAC car at $1000 under MSRP. Thusly, I paid MSRP less $100 bucks. FYI.

-Michael
CA "01 Prius"

The Prius can be purchased below MSRP. I got mine for $430 off MSRP. Not a whole lot of dough, but it paid for the CD player and part of the side impact air bags. Try using Autobytel or, if you're a Costco member, the Costco auto buying program. You can go to their web site and they'll direct to participating dealers in your area. Good luck.

I bought my 2002 Prius on 2/16/02 for $500 under MSRP. It had 400 miles on it and had been used as a test car for potential buyers. While I don't know how hard it was driven during those 400 miles, I did save the 3-5 month wait for it and drove it off the lot the same day.

We got ours for $19,000.00 but it was a test drive model and had quite a few miles on it.

In Atlanta area the dealers were not negotiable at all, so I went the Lease route. Even that was a little hard to work, they tried to change the figures a number of times, but in the end it all worked out about the same as the lease quoted.

I feel the long term gamble of the new hybrid technology, with other products like the Honda and other coming out and the progress in new batteries, it was a good bet that in 3 years something better may be available. If not, I can still buy my Prius or get a new one, otherwise I can go purchase whatever comes out that is better! That puts Toyota at risk with the residual value of the car, not me.

Since I use it as a daily commuter 15K miles per year is fine for me. So the lease costs less, offers me the advantage of using the new technology now, while Toyota takes the risk that it will hold it?s value! Good mix for me!

Bought ours in the Chicago area this past December. Did not expect a discount and wasn't disappointed. Paid MSRP.
