Ok I have a 22r-te and i talked with my friend who is a machinist and we sat down and looked at my head options and decided to try and mill down the early model high swirl head and make it fit the late model 22r block. If the head stands up to the mill then we are going to put it one the engine and test the compression. He is thinking that it will have such high of compression that i won't want to use the turbo. I'll keep you guys updated and tell you how this works. Has any one else tried this? Nik

Hi I have done similiar, a 22re new style on a old style actually 20R, some things to keep in mind -your timing chain sprockets are now on different center-can be cured as I did and you'll wanna use a double old style chain. -use the head bolts from that style head, they are different lengths. -turbo motor pistons are flat tops and the new style head 85+ are for flat tops, and the combustion chamber is around 58cc the early 22r is double that and the some I beleive, the 20r is about 120cc after it's milled .120 and the turbo heads I haven't a clue, they are all junc and don't use them. -milling the bottom of the head lots also changes your cam sproket centers -changing your cam sprocket centers means dialing in tdc on the cam sprocket wth a degree wheel -when you mill things lots the dowels don't fit and need to be filed - anything more than 10:1 and premium gas- is max and watch the timing -I know nothing about Turbos, but I am told 6lbs boost is lots and thats at 8.5:1. When I'v had mine to the Track, I'll surely advise it should be fired up this weekend.
