Apachescout,

Hey, thanks for joining! I am the founder of this little (trying to make it grow) club. I have an automatic 97 Tacoma SX 4x4 reg cab. I put the same stickers you have on above the rear wheels so mine is not an official TRD Tacoma, but it has all the mods. I put the same Bilstein shocks your truck has on, and man, what a difference!! They are SO much better than the stock shocks, they are worth every penny to anyone who takes their Tacoma 4-wheelin' on a regular basis, they even improve the street ride a great deal! I have Progressive pro-57 15x7 inch wheels, 31x10.50 Dunlop Radial Rover AT'S, Bushwaker Extend-a-Fenders, Borla Cat-Back Exhaust(my favorite upgrade),a K&N airfilter, Manik grill guard with Hella 500's on it, pilot fog lights mounted on the sides of the liscense plate, Lund bug-shield, Ventshades, GTS Shadeblade and Tailblazer II, Downey tonneau cover, tinted windows, a Sony CDX-C780 fold down face CD player, Sony Digital EQ, Sony Mini-disc changer in the glove box, pioneer IMPP 6.5inch speakers in the front doors, and Cadence 8inch subwoofers with tweeters behind the seats powered by a Profile 400watt amp which is mounted under driver's seat. The only thing I still want is a Lund Lighted Visor, coming soon I hope! Here in NJ there really is not too many great places to go 4-wheelin', but the local places do just fine. If you have any pics, add them to our photo album! Talk to you later!

Keith

Keith,

is your truck a four or six cylinder. I have a '97 four banger and am considering a Borla exhaust. Does it improve the exhaust note much? Also, where did you get the Bilsteins from and how much did they cost you? I agree that the stock suspension is inadequate for anyone that does much four wheeling. Anyone know anything about the suspension from Downey? Everything in their catalog is very reasonably priced.

I have (had) a 4-banger like you. I just traded it in for a 4Runner. It does sound much better, it is a nice deep tone, everyone that heard it could not believe it was a 4-cyl, including myself. Plus the tip looked very nice, it is a chrome 3inch tip. I dont really think it added any performance, but if any, it gave a little top end power. I think it was worth it. The Bilsteins were around $70 a piece from performance products. They made an unbelievable difference off-roading and also softened the very harsh ride on road. I am going to buy both the shocks and the Borla for my 4Runner.
