Hi all Toyota fans, its' good to be in good company.

As a recent convert to Toyota worship, I want to testify that the 1990 extended cab pickup 22r model which I purchased expecting to need major overhauls and parts replacement (I really just needed a truck for hauling) has surprised me with it' s performance, resilience and even comments of approval from the general public, for its' sex appeal and for my prudence, over the last 4 months. Sure it has dents, scratches, cloudiness of lenses, gratiness of synchromesh and shudders so slightly at idle, but hey...17 years of our local road and tropical punishment would normally send a tank to the scrap heap.

I am now a true believer and plan to embark on a pilgrimage for complete restoration and rehabilitation (with just a tasteful touch of pimping) of this fine machine so I can pay tribute to the great T in the sky.
BUT.... first, where (in cyberworld or otherwise) can a get an original manual for this truck and source of quality spares (right now a new pair of brake calipers would come in handy as I'm only finding used replacements here in Jamaica).

Attached is a pic of the Shroud of Toyota (got to get rid of the tint though).

Cosmetically, it looks in darned good shape for one that old! How's the rust?
Will you have to do a lot of body work? Should be fun. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/460.gif)

Believe it or not rust is not so bad to be considered a problem yet, even with detailed inspection, (well... yeah, I have changed the back bumper which was in pretty bad shape), only minor surface spots which are easily scraped to reveal clean, sound metal in the underbody and chassis. But truth be told here in the developing island tropics, as a matter of economy, we generally have to maintain vehicle longetivity through preventative maintainance (I find that in the more developed world, undercarraige and engine bay washes are not so common- out here, monthy is a norm).
Spares (make that affordable spares) for vehicles of this age generally arrive as seconds with a shaky type of warranty arrangement depending on the supplier. I'm now in need of a quality right side brake caliper (would prefer to change the pair), but those I've come across seem....well, not so bad, but...would prefer something of a higher standard. Maybe I'll just have to order over the net even though my mechanic guarantees me that a good machinist can make it all good.
Need some advice on the following: what are my best options for (1.) a grating gearbox synchromesh,
(2.)upgrading my backend for better cornering without so much of a overtly stiff or cushy ride (still need to be able to haul stuff), (3.) getting a grill, front spoiler update (what years carry which grilles??), (4.) a sliding backglass.
Even without any evidence of early failure, I'm already on the lookout for a clutch replacement and plan to have the gearbox torn down (1st and reverse sometimes seem stubborn, even disregarding the synchromesh issue. Also I'm on the case of a mysterious rattle somewhere inside the right door and woud really love to have a tach (yes in the dash and not one of those outside pieces).

Would appreciate any and all comments, advice, encouragement...whatever.

Thanks again my Toyota family.

Looks great for a truck of that age. My nephew has one that's 10 years old and have over 150,000 miles on it and it's running and looking great. They seem to hold their value very well.
