Hi there,
Just want to take a moment to introduce myself as a new member to this forum. I'm a 57 year old Fort Worth, TX resident. I just bought a 2001 Toyota Tundra IForce SR5 4.7 VR extended cab pick-up. It is in pristine condition as it has only 37,000 miles. Sometimes one runs into these opportunities from senior citizens who does not drive much.
I'm a mechanically inclined man and can do most repairs myself. However, sometimes one runs into situations that require someone else's input. I don't know if I'm in the right forum for the assistance I am looking for but I'll explain.
This pick-up of mine has a strange, FOUL odor in the interior cabin. I purchased this truck about 2 months ago during cold, freezing weather so the odor was not detectable. A short while back on a very hot day I left my truck in the driveway and when I opened the door the stench hit me.
I suspected the evaporator as the condensate tube was not putting out condensation. I opened the evaporator housing only to discover the evaporator is super clean aluminum on both sides and on the floor of the evap housing (no growth of any kind). I poked the condensate tube with a long wire and blew compressed air into the condensate tube while the evap housing was opened. A very small amount of dust was blown into the cabin, however this bit of dust was not smelly. I want to tell you that I have yet to see condensation dripping from the drain tube (not normal) right?
I have removed the outer cowl by the front windshield, removed debris and cleaned up dry leaves and insects. I also removed all A/C ducts and washed them. I removed the carpet and seats and gave them a thorough wash with a rug doctor and left them outdoors for 2 weeks. They smell normal. I washed the cabin floor, all door panels, instrument panel and left the door windows down for 2 weeks. All smelled normal until I turned the A/C on again or leave the truck out in the hot sun.
Any suggestions and advise is appreciated.
Best regards, Jawrgie
