Do you have a hayes or chilton manual? I'd start there first.

I know when I had to have my window motor replaced taking the door panel off was way more trouble that it was worth - not to mention trying to get it back on right. Next time I'll save my time and pay a mechanic.

I've replaced a few door solenoids and window motors.

The difference is $100 vs $900.

Buy the repair manual (I'm partial to Haynes), and see if you need any special tools. Sometimes on the cheaper North-American vehicles (like a Sunfire) you have to Grind-off rivets to remove the mechanism. But I'm betting the Toyota engineers are smarter and it's a "bolt-off"..."bolt-on" affair, from what I remember.

If you have to grind off some rivet heads, let me know as I have a recommendation where you don't need a rivet-gun. You can PM me seperately if you want an "immediate" answer (when I check these forums I miss stuff occasionally).

Tell me more about these manuals . . . are they expensive? Can a newbie (wannabe) mechanic get started from them? Can I buy them at the local auto parts store?

Thanks for the info.

Guys....it's simpler than you think.

Go to Wal-Mart to their automotive section. They have all the Haynes manuals there.

If they don't have the make/model/year of your vehicle, you can order direct from Haynes.

Thanks Pongo. I don't do Walmart, but I'll check out the website and see about ordering one for the Mustang. I'd love to fix that up all on my own.

By the way, you'd never know by your picture that you knew so much about cars. ;)
