I just had my new FJ Cruiser in for the 1st servicing and asked that the transmission fluid be check. When shifting there is a slight noise like it might be low on fluid. The dealer told me that they were not allowed to check or service the transmission fluid. The dealer went on to say that the fluid is never to be changed or checked or added to for the life of the car. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/s10.gif)

Does anyone know if this is true, or am I getting wrong info from my dealer?

Thanks Brian

My first instinct was to call bullsh*t, however I would first be curious what your owners manual says gets checked at the regular intervals.

Automatic transmissions should be serviced every 2 years (normal driving). The filters get clogged, and the metal wears like anything else. If it's a automatic transmission then most of the metal filings are in the torque converter and should be "flushed" every 2 years.

You may have a warranty that covers 5 years, but if you plan on keeping the vehicle, "flush" your tranny (not just change oil) every 2 years. You should not void your warranty.

But please tell us, what does your manual say.

I believe that the FJC tranny is similar to that of the Taco and is a closed system. It needs to be serviced at 100K miles and only at the $tealer. Don't quote me on this, but this is what I've heard from other FJC/'05+ Taco owners. I'd say consult your owners manual first.
