I've just put a deposit down on an imported 1992 Toyota Celica GTR. I've owned a celica before (mark 4 GT Auto), and regretted selling it, so I've had the opportunity to pick this GTR up for a fiver short of 3K. It's in very good condition considering it's age, 110000 on the clock (i'm assuming this is Km, seeing as the speedo is in Km). Air Con, electric windows/mirrors/seats. I know now from looking at the posts in this group that these cars are 4-wheel steering. This is about all I know about this particular model... Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Also - Can anyone recommend a good insurance company in the UK that'll insure it? Thanks!

Are you the first owner since import? Seems a tad on the pricey side but 110k km is 70k miles which is low for a 12 year old car. Any hoo price aside 4 WS is the mutts nutts, just make sure it's working ok, the lights should come on the dash for a few seconds when the ignition is turned on and go out (same as ABS lights do) make sure with the "revs 2ws" indicator on the rear wheels go centre them selves when you engage reverse and at standstill after driving reverseing etc. the rear wheels turn the opposite direction to the fronts. Try teso's/aon/elephant/liverpool & victoria/privilege for quotes Has it got TEMS suspension (button in front of the ashtray)?

I'm not the first owner - according to the logbook, i'm the 2nd since import in 1999. You're the second person today who has told me ?2995 is a little bit steep for this car, but i'm commited now; i've paid my deposit! I haven't got it yet (it's being valeted today), but as soon as I do get it, i'll be sure to let you know if it's got TEMS (maybe in exchange for you telling me what TEMS is?!?)

IIRC - TEMS = "Toyota Engineered Modular Suspension" basically electronically controlled dampers, more toys, more flashing lights :)

unlike the UK spec Celicas, the GTR's came with the following options.. Toyota Superlive sound system (10 speakers +Cd radio 2xdin) Electric adjustable seats Adjustable steering column 4ws TEMS (toyota Electronica Modulated suspension) Suspension is controlled electronically..you can MOD this to keep it on the sports setting Adjustable heated mirrors Climate and Aircon And about 10BHP more = = = Original message = = = I'm not the first owner - according to the logbook, i'm the 2nd since import in 1999. Thanks for that Paul. I'm in Caerphilly in South Wales. Had a very good quote from Lifesure (?585, ?400 Excess), but they've JUST been beaten by Liverpool and Victoria (?536, ?300 Excess). Both quotes were much better than most of the mainstream insurers, who came in at an average of about ?850!!

OK Insurance first, as this is my first policy although I have driven other peoples cars for 15 years I got a good policy from Adrian Flux insurance, I pay about 650 3rd party so it's seems ok for me. I don't have TEWS on my car, but paid ?2000 for it with 67,000 miles on the clock, interior immaculate, still have the original toyota floor mats, a couple of small dents on the wings, which are getting done soon along with a GT4 bonnet going on "yes my nickname is Max power at work now". I love the turning capability of the 4WS not the fastest car on the streets, but I love the looks and ride quality of it, I've had it tinted except the front screen and it looks even more awesome :))))))

Jolly good, I think these cars are bit on the heavy side which hurts on the performance side but the 4ws and the excellent handling means you can out handle loads more powerful cars. E.g. me and a mate in a very quick turbo mr2 had a bit of a trip cross country, only time I wasn't up his exhaust was on a big straight where he was able to use his extra 100bhp.
