Hmmmm... Dunno if it's different in Canada, but my dealer has always been saying
about 3-4 months for mid-June orders.

Peter, is this now THREE emails you have gotten?
The initial "you ordered it", the second "the dealer
confirmed it", and now this 3-4 month one? I'm
jealous!

>The wait time for the initial 2002 was always 4
>months from june to october.

Sure, but the web
site says (and has said since June 1) expect delivery
in Oct-Nov. That is 4-5 months from June 1. Now they
are saying 3-4 months. That translates into
Sept-Oct.

Sounds like a small pull in. Of course given one-month
granularity, it may mean only a very small change.

It
occurs to me that there are other possible reasons
besides producing more hybrids, though:

1) Fewer
dealers than expected decided to get 2002 TRACs. (These
are supposed to arrive in Sept according to the web
site. If there are fewer than expected, some cars that
they thought were going to dealers can be allocated to
customers.)

2) Enough 2001 cancellations have happened that they
were able to push the start of production of 2002
models a bit earlier. After all, there is little if any
change, so little if any retooling and retraining
required. As evidence for this speculation, we recently
heard of an 01 delivered with one month wait time.

3) Pman saw Peter's complaints and had his web site
gurus send him a special email :-) :-), or even better
for Peter, manually moved him to the head of the
list. Hmmmm. Maybe I should try it...Boy, you know,
Toyota really rots about not building more Priuses...
:-) :-)

Burns

Rick,

So are you saying that your third
mail message said that you can expect your vehicle in
3-4 months (the reduced wait mail like Peter
<mo_mpg> got) and it ALSO said that the vehicle was
reserved? Peter, did yours say "reserved"? Someone else got
one that said "reserved". Did it also say 3-4
months?

Trying to figure out which lines to read

Burns,

Saw your message to Rick and Peter.
For me, the third email message that I received on
6/14 does say "Vehicle Reserved" but only in the
subject line. It also states "You can expect to receive
your vehicle in 3-4 months." in the message
body.

Here's the text (edited to remove email addys,
etc.):

Aha! Thanks Rod. Maybe that is it. I was trying
to figure out why some people got a wait time update
and some people got a "reserved" message. Perhaps it
is just whether people noticed the subject
line.

So here is the question: For those of you who got a
third email message with either 3-4 months or 5-6
months (gaaak!), how many did and how many did not have
the words "vehicle reserved" in the *subject*? Did
anyone actually have those words in the text?

If
there are actually different kinds of mail messages
going out, I'd like to "raise the bat signal" and ask
Priusman what the different kinds of messages mean. If all
messages are the same except for the timing, Pman has
already explained that some people will get cars from
September production, so I can deal with
that.

Burns
LOWCO2 - NH
Waiting for (who knows how long) to put
it on a Prius!

They probably used the 5-6 months disclosure as a way to get people to take the
remaining 2001s.

>Burns: I took another look at the 3rd Email I
>received from Toyota concerning my '02 US Prius >order,
and the word "reserved" _is_ in the >subject line.
Sorry I didn't notice this before. >However, the
word "reserved" is _not_ in the >body text of the
message.

Excellent! Thank you. I'm coming to believe that all the 3rd
emails are the same with the exception that some say 3-4
months and some say <gasp> 5-6 months. And then
there are those who get nothing.

When I ordered my MY2001 Prius in mid-February,
the website said to expect end-of-June to mid-July
delivery. The sales manager said I'd be lucky to get it by
Labor Day. I picked it up on May 29, at least one month
"early" according to the website.

I suspect Toyota
is simply providing estimates on the "late side."
That way, when we get our cars "early," we're
impressed. It's common in all kinds of businesses. Why tell
your customer to expect something quickly and then
have it be delayed, thus upsetting them?

I
expect you'll all get your MY2002 Prius' much sooner
than what the website or your dealers say.
