Hi guys and dolls I'm the new owner of a 1990 V6/auto/4x4 4runner with 124000 on the clock, body is still straight and shiney but I do have a few questions. she has a sliding sunroof that has a problem, you can hear the motor running but it sounds like it has a stripped gearbox, does someone know if the gearbox is rebuildable and if the "gears" are plastic or metal? Also I'm in need of a good service manual, will the dealerships sell one for that particular model year I would like to find one that has electrical schematics and good service info also are there any good web sites that have good modification/service/tips for the 4runner. These things seem to be built like little tanks, I hope to spend a few years in the seat of this with out too many problems Thanks Steve

Can't help you with your sunroof problem, but you should be able to get the factory service manual from the dealer if they are still available for that year. They are very complete, although pricey, about $100-$150 for the set. Hope this helps, Anthony Message: 1

When it comes to manuals, I got a "Haynes" manual at Pep Boys, has good stuff and troubleshooting tips plus electrical schematics at the back pages. Don't buy the Chiltons! I bought a manual at the dealer (special ordered, took a week to get) for my toyota SuperCharged MR-2, 80 bucks. Darn things is as big a your average town yellow pages...yet I find that my 4runner the 14 dollar Haynes book is better...

Steve... Check ebay and amazon.com's used book marketplace for your manual. I see them sold on there from time to time pretty cheap. Also, at bookfinder.com, they can sometimes hunt down a used book for you...they network with used book stores all over the country. Good Luck......Laurel ; >
