Hey Guys .. it said " good things come for those who wait " .. (I think this came from the bible ? lol) so , yea , I waited alot .. collected money as much as I could , and finally got my used toyota camry 2004 .. its cool car , specially for someone who never got a car before lol

so .. I have no idea about fixing any kind of cars or upgrading cars ... well , only tried that playing some computer games lol

anyway .. the gearbox has 2 buttons .. well , the upper button is bigger and I press it when I change the gear .. this is the normal thing .. now the new thing for me is the 2nd button (smaller one under the previous button directly) .. which when i press , icon led light on ( O\D OFF ) ... what is that supposed to be ?
this is my first question for the moment !

and btw , if someone can tell me where i can learn about cars parts and engine stuff for maintenance and so on , it would be really really appreciated ..

thx.

Jason.

Have you read the owner's manual re trans operation?

You should buy the Toyota Service Manual from the dealer. Also, both Chilton and Haynes have good service manuals.

If you have no experience with car maintenance, you'll need to get a book on basic stuff. You won't be able to do much on this car witout a scan tool, since everything is electronic.

And, you'll need a set of mechanics' tools, in metric. Sears has very good quality stuff, and you can buy a set there. Also consider getting a 2 ton floor jack, and two high-quality jack stands. Get these at Sears, too.

well, like edjack says....read the owners manual. sorry...but you'll have to do it the old fashioned way and open it and turn the pages. if you dont have one, go to ebay motors, and do a search for camry owners manual and get one. unlike what ed says, dont buy a service manual from toyota. you wont understand a thing in it, but a haynes or chilton manual will be a little help. with an 04 camry, you prob won't have to do too many things for a long time, just basic oil and filter changes and air filter. the owners manual will tell lyou how to check all the fluids, power steering, brake, transmission, oil, and things like that . forums like this one...or another that has many more users...google it....often have alot of how too's complete with pics and everything. best way to learn cars is by doing tho....you wont pick it up online.....i know how busy it can be with school and work....but you'll just have to make some time, and ask your dad for help for the first oil change...would probably make you both real happy....oh...and congratulations, good pick for a newbie.... oh...almost forgot the o/d off means overdrive turned off. it may be a rare occasion that you will use it, climbing long hills where the car may want to shift in and out of overdrive alot.....or going down long steep grades to let the engine do the braking instead of riding the brakes. while you're driving steady at around 35 or 40...hit it and you will see the rpm's increase a few hundred.

i found a link that may be helpful to you. or others who may look at this forum. it is free info link to chilton manuals. it's not the same as buying one of their manuals, but it does have alot of useful information about most aspects of most cars.

http://www.chiltonlibrary.com/Index.aspx

hope it is useful to y'all
