I was driving down the road the other night when my headlights went out. I have checked and replaced all fuses as well as both relays that deal with the lights. Replaced turn signal switch on the colum as well as the light sensor on the dash board with no luck. I then pulled both headlights and forced power to both from an outside power source and they work fine.
However when I unplug the sensor as long as I allow the system to keep the day time running lights on always they work. But as soon as I turn the switch to manual ON position they turn off. I have to set the turn signal switch the the middle setting to get marker lights and head lights.
The problem started when I would have the emergency brake engaged while the car was started and it keeps all lights off to warm up the car in the morning. When I would want the lights off for work I would pull the car over, turn it off, engage the parking brake, turn the car back on and release the brake to the first notch and then manually turn the headlights on until I needed them off. I drove several minutes with the e brake engaged forcing the lights to stay off and I have no idea if that may have anything to do with the problem but I am stumped and can afford a stealership price at the moment.
