I had a simliar problem where the garage told me my ignitor was shot, but in the end it turned out to be my distributor, as this is one of the main things that go wrong with older Toyota's.
This took a lot of people to work out what was wrong with it, until I took it to the right garage that knew what they were doing.
If it is the ignitor however, you'll have to get the model number from it, as they all have different colour wiring/plastic, and don't all look the same. I think FENSPORT said there were 5 different types for the Mk1 MR2 alone!
Hope some of this may help,

Baker
