Hello:
First post and hoping someone can help me. Have a 97 Corolla with 1.6 liter engine and 3 automatic tranny. I have cleaned up the cap and rotor contact points, new plugs, 40psi in the tires, and I still only get 32.5 mpg on the freeway. My 98 Olds Intrigue with a 3.8 liter will almost do this!!!!
What else to check? Oh, I also installed a oxygen sensor (new and OEM......the sensor just downstream from the exhaust manifold) and that didn't make any difference. Car has 185,000 miles on it and runs great (best car I"ve ever owned......very reliable). Acceleration is a little sluggish compared to my wife's 2004 Honda Civic and 5 speed tranny, but not bad.
What else to check? Catalytic converter? EGR valve? PCV valve is working the way it should. Timing is spot on.
Thanks for any help.
