I need to get a new alternator for my '89 4-Runner 4cyl/auto. Any
suggestions or warnings on parts dealers? So far the local Toyota
dealer is the most expensive with a reman for $170. Parts America,
$144 for a reman by Worldwide. Autozone is the cheapest w/ $115 for a
reman by Durlast. I know some of the Autozone & PA reman stuff does
not hold up like OEM, but sometimes it is probably just as good.
Especially for a vehicle that I will probably trade in soon (for a
newer Toyota of Course!).

Jason,
I tend to drive older cars, so I almost always just
go to Autozone. They have a lifetime warranty on the
parts, unlike the OEMs (go figure...), and except for
one problem with some bearings, they have been very
good in my cars. YMMV.

I'm with Greg on this one. Your original Nipondenso
alternator was good. The re-man from auto-boyz is
probably not worth your time installing. If you can
stand to have it down for a day, get a local shop to
rebuid it with good components and it should last as
long as the original.

you know you an always get one from a wrecking yard. I own a 90 runner and that
is the option i took . it cost me $45. I have had it in my truck for a year now
without a single problem.
