Been changing my oil for years, but made a stupid mistake today... In a hurry, I was finishing up an oil change and by adding the last 1/2 quart of oil and forgot to replace the cap. With the hood still up, I turned the engine on for about 1 minute to circulate the oil to get an accurate reading on the dipstick. I realized the mistake and shut the engine off (30 sec- 1 min total?). There was some oil spray, but really not too bad. The level was fine, so I replaced the cap and drove home with no problems (about an hour). Is there even the least chance that this could cause any problems? The only concern I can think of is if any particles got sucked into the engine, but I was in a pretty clear location, so I don't know. I assume that it throws off the oil presure to have the cap off, could this do any damage?
I'm assuming this isn't a big deal, but I'd rather be safe than sorry so I wanted to throw this out there for any experts to respond- thanks!
