Can anyone help please. My Supra MKIII (non-turbo), runs lovely, but burns an incredible amount of oil - about a litre to 350 miles. There are no leaks and no smoke from the exhaust. The latest thing I have tried, on advice, was to have the inlet valve seals renewed but the problem has not been solved. Brian

Brian, First check for oil on the spark plugs and how they burn (Color and residue). If they are clean, your valves might not close OK or there might be carbon buildup in the header. Get a new fuel filter and check ignition. If it they are very dark do a compression test. The tool costs you about $45. See if there is a large difference in between cylinders. You might need a new head gasket. If compression is way to low.... Piston rings need to be replaced or valves need to be reset or if bend they need to be replaced. Good luck, Roelof.

Thank you Roelof I will try some of your ideas. But why do I never see any smoke? Brian

Do you mean out of the exhaust or from under the hood. If from under the hood: you poured oil over the valve cover while filling up the oil or stop the car immediately because you blew the engine. If you are talking about the exhaust: If you only leak a very little bit of oil, it will burn with your gasoline in the cylinders. Your exhaust will eventually start to color. If there is smoke coming out of the exhaust, you need to find out where it is coming from because something has broken (head gasket, valve retainers, piston rings and in in worse situations and bend valve, blown piston, cracked head ot cylinder wall). One more simple question. If the exhaust is completely clean... check where you park the car. If you don't loose the oil out of the exhaust the you need to be able to find it on the floor. The most likely place where it will be coming from is the oil pan seal. Roelof.
