I always try to search new forums before posting but didn't see exactly what I'm looking for so here's a run down on my problem. I have a 79 toyota 4x4 with a 2.4L 22R that I have been using on my farm for years without problems....major ones anyway. A few days ago, the fuel pump stopped running (no juice getting to it) so I ran a wire from it to the fuse box so I could keep on using the truck. Later on that night it was dark enough outside I could see that the oil light was dimly lit, which it's never done that before till now. Also now that this has happened, whenever I let my foot off the accelerator, the truck usually dies unless I let it off really slow. I'm wondering if this year truck has a fuel pump relay on it? Why would the oil light be just dimly lit and not full on bright? She's not much to look at but sure gets the job done and I'd hate to put her down. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

In general a dim light means a bad ground. You might check the oil switch/wiring. Or oil level. You could troubleshoot the Fuel pump prob like will it run with the fuel pump check connector shorted--ooops 22r? You may find the fuel and stall problem are related somehow as you troubleshoot.

Test Procedures
TESTING
CAUTION
Do not operate the fuel pump unless it is immersed in gasoline and connected to its resistor.

Disconnect the lead from the oil pressure warning light sender.
Unfasten the line from the outlet side of the fuel filter.
Connect a pressure gauge to the filter outlet with a length of rubber hose.
Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position, but do not start the engine.
Check the pressure gauge reading against the figure given in the "Tune-Up Specifications'' chart in Section 2.
Check for a clogged filter or pinched lines if the pressure is not up to specification.
If there is nothing wrong with the filter or lines, replace the fuel pump.
Turn the ignition OFF and reconnect the fuel line to the filter. Connect the lead to the oil pressure sender also.
