I ordered my Prius on 2/19, just one week ago. However, I have yet to receive confirmation from Toyota or the dealership that the order was received.

Is there any way I can find out from Toyota directly? My salesperson said something about they (the dealership) neglected to put my email address on the order form and that they have only "one shot" to do so when placing my order.

He assures me that he's received confirmation from Toyota, but I'd feel much better if I could confirm it myself.

Any suggestions or help would be appreciated!

Ask the salesperson if he put the email address on it. There should be a help area on the Toyota web site, they might be able to look up the order.

Peter

> Is there any way I can find out from Toyota
> directly?

On January 1st I placed my order directly with the local dealer, as I could not get into Toyota's website and I was impatient. The dealer did not even ask for my email address so I might receive the updates.

A few days after my order I checked with my sales guy and he assured me that all was well with the order. They had neglected to get my SSN, which they called for a couple of days later.

But like you I felt uncomfortable not having any tangible feedback on the order being placed. Especially after hearing the tale here (or was it egroups) about someone who placed their deposit in September for "should be here by Christmas" to find the order only truly placed in Janurary.

Thus, last week I emailed my dealership and asked if they could tell me my purchase request number. They responded a couple of hours later with the number. That certainly made me feel a lot better knowing I was somewhere in the queue. Perhaps you can do the same.

Had I to do it over again, I would certainly initiate the order at Toyota's website instead of relying on the dealer. The email confirmations would make the long wait a lot less uncertain. Pardon me if I offend, but depending upon the word of a car salesman is not a confident place to be (especially when most everything else he said about the Prius I knew to be wrong).

Bill Faust
(Purchase Request Number 673369XXXX, expecting mid-April)

PS - If anyone knows of a new silver Prius available in the Los Angeles area at MSRP, then please let me know and I will be there within two hours with a check!

Ask your dealership for the Purchase Request #. If they successfully input your purchase request, they should receive a Purchase Request # by return or shortly thereafter. This number is non-sequential and is used as a tracking id for the request. There has been some interrupted service of the website over the past couple of weeks, but if they submitted last week they should have received a response. Also you can ask them to add your email address. If they can't, they should be able to ask the regional office. Hope that helps. PM

I took delivery of my Prius today...what a car! Salesman told me they had a hard time entering my personal information and that one should really order the car directly from the toyota website and then follow up with dealer when Toyota emails such a message. It is two entirely different computer systems and the dealers have a devil of a time getting your personal information entered. I would believe the dealer that the car is on order with your name attached. If in doubt, pay them a visit and have them pull up the order for you.
DEC

Thanks, Priusman! I ended up calling the Toyota Customer Service number and they told me they'd follow up with the dealer.

I did talk to the salesman again yesterday and I'm going to get the purchase order number from him later today at the dealership.

I appreciate the advice!

Priusman
Thank you for all the information you continue to provide. Regarding the purchase request number. You say it is not sequential -- but you also said we are "in line" -- that orders are filled on the basis of when the request is issued. Two people have reported that their Prius are in port -- and they orderd in early December. Since I ordered in late November, does that mean the ship carrying my vehicle is slower? -- but will be coming into port soon? -- or did their "later dated" requests get filled before mine? I am on the west coast (northern) also. I do have a request number. Thank you in advance for replying to my question.

Bob

A confimed dealer purchase request gets time and date stamped upon receipt by the system and you're cued within your sales region. Differences in delivery timing can be caused by a variety of issues. Ports of entry - travel time - east coast vs. west coast, does the ship go to PTL first then LA or vice versa. Major differences from coast to coast, minor differences between the ports on the same coast.
Color choice is another big one and where you are in the cue line for that particular color in your region. Cancellations and how the individual region elects to handle them. Everyone moves up in the region but depends on color and if they redistribute within the region or if the order wasn't cancel til after receipt at the store. If it was left at the store then everyone waiting at that particular store could move up. How the factory builds and ships the production to given areas.....build by color, sit on a dock in Nagoya waiting for vessel space or region shipment....alot of different factors. Scott's advice is valid as he is involved in managing the process for the Northern California dealers. There may be some differences in policy and procedure regarding how the Portland Region handles their process. Thanks for being patient. PM
