Welcome chris8177!

After you receive your Prius, please tell this group the exact type of tires supplied on it, and their maximum load rating (xxx kg at xxx kpa).

Of the following features, which were standard or optional in Germany?
Navigation System
Side Airbags
Split Folding Rear Seat

If you don't mind telling us, what price do they ask for the Prius in Germany? I assume it is in DM. What would the price be in Euros? Is the conversion rate from DM to Euros fixed or variable?

I hope you don't mind so many questions. I think you're the first German to post in our club. Again, welcome!

theboothsdad

hi !
according to the brochure, tires are 175/65R14 - i'll tell you more when i know.
folding rear seats are standard, the navigation system is optional.
side airbags are not (yet) available :-(
there seems to be a lack of information here about the prius, since toyota says that the navigation system is the only option for this car, but according to the dealer it's also no problem to install a cd changer (with touchscreen controls).
the price for the prius here is 44400 dm, the navigation system is 6200 dm extra.
1 euro equals 1.96 dm (the conversion rate is fixed).

i wonder why the navigation system is so expensive here; except for the dvd disc it should be just the same as in the us.
anyway - i didn't order the gps; i think for 3000 ? less i can afford getting lost a few times ;-)
heated mirrors are also standard, as well as the headlight setting wheel (i think that one is required for every new car in germany).
so... another 2 weeks...
if anyone's interested in the top speed handling of the prius, i guess here's the place to check it out ;-)

I am very interested in high speed handling of the Prius. Last week I drove the Prius from Atlanta to North Florida with extended periods of over 85MPH. It did quite fine and I averaged over 45MPG with the AC running.

I wonder how the Prius will do with continual speeds in the high 80's - low 90's.

Thanks.

Hallo Chris!

Welcome to the club. You will have a lot of Americans very jealous of you because we have to wait many months to get our Prius! I myself have been waiting since mid-May, but that included a change to a 2002 model at the beginning of June.

Of course you know the speedometer in cars sold in Germany registers by law 7% higher than actual, so we will be aware of a certain percentage of your high-speed exploits on the Autobahn will be in your imagination!

Have fun (and drive safely) when you get your new car.

James

>Of course you know the speedometer in cars sold >in Germany registers
> by law 7% higher than actual, so we will be >aware of a certain
> percentage of your high-speed exploits on the >Autobahn will be in your
> imagination!

well thats not entirely right, it's just forbidden by law that the speedometer shows a speed lower than your actual speed (which would be dangerous since you'd be driving faster than you think you are).
so the speedometers usually show a few % more, to be on the safe side...
the value can never be exact anyway, cause when the tires wear off, their diameter decreases, thus the speed indicated will rise.

I received the same e-mail on 9/26 - Vehicle matching your request has been assigned, expect to receive in 4-5 months. I called my dealer ASAP. He was aware of the e-mail, said he also got a copy of it and to ignore it. He stated the car was scheduled to arrive in Portland on 9/29 and should arrive at the dealership about 2 weeks later.
