Our '01 Sequoia has 93k miles and started sporadically (once a week to once a month) scaring the heck out of my wife but this weekend it finally happened to me. Driving along, all of a sudden the car shudders, as if it's turning itself off, the brakes & power steering go out and there is beeping and the TRAC lights on the dash come on but then it comes back to life almost as quickly. I was somewhat skeptical of my wife's description of the problem. The dealership already put in a new "brake booster" for $1200 (thank god for the extended warranty) but that didn't fix it since yesterday it happened to me twice within about 5 seconds - I was doing 70 on the interstate so I just focused on staying in my lane and after a second or two it returned to normal, except that the TRAC lights stayed on until we reached our destination. Drove home 3 hrs. today with no problems. Any ideas?

Update... now the dealer has replaced the "Yaw sensor" and says I shouldn't have any more problems with it but our experience was so scary that we will be looking to dump it soon. In researching this problem, there seem to be many similar internet complaints and some NHTSB complaints. The offending model years appear to be 2003 and 2001 (ours). The problem seems to show up anytime - some with 500 miles had the problem, some with 40,000 and ours was fine until 93,000. The people most upset were the ones who were out of warranty. One lady said she was so unnerved by her experience that she dropped the car off at the dealer & said she wouldn't drive it again (not sure if she lemon law'd it or not). Regardless, for those of us who have experienced this problem, it has shaken our confidence in Toyota, which arguable has one of the best reputations for reliability (one reason many don't purchase an extended warranty when buying a Toyota).
